Huawei Matebooks will continue to get Windows updates

With the ban on Huawei in the US continuing full steam ahead, fans and customers of the brand are still left with a number of questions.

Users of the Chinese firm’s notebooks – Matebooks – have been left in the dark somewhat what with the Android ban taking centre stage.

But what about Windows? Given that the Matebook series is designed for Windows will these notebooks still receive Windows Updates?

The good news is that yes, Matebooks will still receive Windows Updates according to a Microsoft spokesperson who spoke to PC World.

“Our initial evaluation of the U.S. Department of Commerce’s decision on Huawei has indicated we may continue to offer Microsoft software updates to customers with Huawei devices,” the spokesperson said.

PC World goes on to report that Intel has also confirmed it will provide firmware updates, security updates and drivers to Matebook users.

So that’s good news then but things could change at any point as we saw last month with the initial ban.

While things are now clearer than they were almost a month ago, the future of Huawei is still very much in a state of flux

We recently had a chance to speak with Huawei South Africa about the state of play at the moment and while a number of questions were answered, whether Huawei will survive this ban and make it out unscathed remains to be seen.
