Superhero actors galore in new trailer for The Current War

If you’re still high off of dramatised history thanks to Chernobyl, you may be interested in an upcoming movie called The Current War, which tells the story of Thomas Edison, George Westinghouse and others like Nikola Tesla.

A new trailer released for the movie starts with a few quick flashes of who will be starring and, boy, there are a lot of superhero movie veterans here.

Thomas Edison is played by Doctor Strange himself, Benedict Cumberbatch. George Westinghouse is Michael Shannon who you may remember as General Zod in Man of Steel. Nikola Tesla gets Beast from the newer X-Men movies, Nicholas Hoult and the latest Spider-Man, Tom Holland, is playing Samuel Insull.

We’re sure this is just a coincidence and a result of there being so many superhero movies, but it’s still a bit interesting to see so many of these actors making up the main cast here.

Casting oddity aside, the trailer is actually incredibly well put together and suitably does its job of getting us excited to see it.

If you look up this movie you may be surprised to find that it is listed as released in 2017, despite the fact that it’s coming to theatres later this year.

This isn’t a re-release or anything like this, but a problem resulting from the scandal around Harvey Weinstein and the Weinstein Company, which was to distribute the film. Thankfully the movie was sold to Lantern Entertainment and will be released by 101 Studios in October of this year.
