Vodacom soft testing Employee Engage app to better communicate with staff

Youth unemployment remains one of the biggest issues currently facing government, but on the other end of the spectrum, companies are fighting to lessen the amount of employee turnover, and as such retain talent.

To that end Vodacom has been soft testing its own Employee Engage app, making it available to a portion of its workforce, and aiming to make it more widely available across the country.

“Vodacom is transforming into a digital company and in keeping with its digital transformation strategy, Vodacom announced its internal rollout of employee engage platform, Vodacom Engagement App aimed at enabling its employees to easily engage with the company, as well as gain access to products and services at the palm of their hands anywhere at any time,” the firm explained in a press release sent to Hypertext.

In terms of what the Engage app will make accessible, it currently caters to the following for employees:

  • View payslips and benefits
  • Access the network operator’s learning platform
  • Manage and review performance
  • Connect to Workplace
  • Link up with global Opcos
  • Keep up-to-date with the news
  • Log health and safety, as well as maintenance calls
  • Book boardrooms and view calendars
  • Access their digital signature
  • Access key Vodacom policies and procedures.

Having been launched within Vodacom for six weeks, they note that the Engage app has a penetration rate of 50 percent among staff, and form’s phase one of its rollout.

“The introduction of the Employee Engage App is aligned to our vision 2020, which will see us transform into digital solutions company. We already provide a five star digital experience for our customers, and we realise that it’s about time we provided the same experience for our employees, who are essentially the driving force that is propelling this organisation forward,” adds Vodacom group chief human resources officer, Mbungela Matimba.

Vodacom has also created an app for visitors, called the Digital Visitor App. The app allows visitors to sign in digitally and, in turn, notify the respective contact person to meet and greet with their visitor.

For now the local network has not confirmed when the Employee Engage app will be rolled out to other organisations in the country, but at the very least it should be interesting to see how effective it is in increasing the level of engagement with its current workforce.
