Cuphead DLC has a new trailer and a 2020 release date

Cuphead’s upcoming DLC – which of course stands for Delicious Last Course – has been pushed back to 2020, but there’s a new, very short trailer to show some of it off.

Developer Studio MDHR explain on Twitter why the content has been pushed back –

“Our highest priority with The Delicious Last Course is making sure this new adventure meets the meticulous level of care and quality we always strive for,” The post from the studio reads, “It’s also important to us that we make things in a way that’s healthy and sustainable for our team.”

As a result of this, the DLC will be pushed back on all platforms to some time next year.

This issue of overworking developers, usually referred to as “crunch” has been in the spotlight countless times in recent years with the people behind our games being put into extremely unhealthy situations to get titles out of the door.

If you’re heartless and don’t give a damn about human suffering, crunch can also lead to released games and their DLC being disappointing or not up the studio’s usual quality. Given the solid gold standard that Studio MDHR is now known for, this is a big issue here.

The trailer itself is very short but seems to show off two new bosses in the same familiar combination of amazing animation and music that we have come to expect from the base game.

If you’ve already played the game many times over and want something else to do before the release of the DLC, we suggest checking out some videos which look into how it was made to better understand why a delay like this is needed.

GameSpot, Red Bull Gaming and GDC all have similar types of videos on the subject.
