Metal Wolf Chaos XD finally gets a release date of 6th August

After months of waiting we finally know that Metal Wolf Chaos XD will hit PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC come 6th August this year.

If you’ve somehow not heard of this game until now, it’s a third person mech title made by none other than FromSoftware. It’s absolutely bombastic in both design and story, with the player taking control of a fictional US president who uses his mech suit to try and reclaim the country from a rebelling vice president.

The game, which was previously known as simply “Metal Wolf Chaos”, was a Japanese exclusive for the original Xbox after being released in 2004. Devolver Digital since picked up the title to localise it, do a bit of remastering, and release it on more platforms with the “XD” moniker on the end.

This new version promises “upgraded visual fidelity, refined controls and gameplay, a new save system, and 4K + 16:9 support for modern displays”. That fidelity promise seems to extend to consoles as the store page on the Microsoft store carries the “Xbox One X Enhanced” badge.

The game is currently up for pre-order at $24.99 (~R350) overseas, but both the PlayStation Store and Steam have local pricing listed already (R399 and R150 respectively).

Pre-orders are open with the reward being a skin for your mech called “Lambda”. It’s rather underwhelming and we also recommend waiting for reviews before spending any money.

Oh, and if you’re wondering why this news happened today, it’s because it’s 4th July, Independence Day in the US. There couldn’t have been a better time to announce the release date of such a game.
