At the weekend the annual GuardianCon convention took place in the US and as developers of one of the games featured at the con, Bungie gave Destiny 2 fans a glimpse of the next expansion for the game.
Following a rocky launch and a lack lustre Year One, the second year of Destiny 2 has been rather magnificent. Forsaken hit a number of high notes and the ensuing seasons that have been released this year are great.
Come September, Bungie will release the next expansion for Destiny 2 in Shadowkeep.
The expansion will see players return to an original Destiny location – the Moon.
While players may know the location, Bungie has said that it will be larger than it was in the first game and a lot more sinister. At the weekend we were given a closer look at the location in a video you can see below.
Together with the reveal trailer released in June, it’s clear that Shadowkeep is taking a much darker approach than Forsaken, not that Forsaken was a fun-loving, happy-go-lucky story.
We also know from a livestream that Shadowkeep will bring with it new Exotic weapons and armour as well as possibly explain the tetrahedron-shaped ships that we saw at the conclusion of Destiny 2’s vanilla campaign.
The expansion is set to be released on 17th September on Xbox, PlayStation and PC. The game will be moving to Steam following Bungie’s split from Activision earlier this year.
It’s also worth remembering that Destiny 2 will be going free to play in September. New players will have access to content from Destiny 2’s Curse of Osiris and Warmind campaigns as well as being able to visit other destinations such as the highly lauded Dreaming City.
For those that are currently playing the game, Moments of Triumph return on 9th July which you can read more about here.
The 9th is also the day Bungie intends to patch the Menagerie bug which lets you re-open a chest as many times as possible.
We highly recommend farming up before that patch hits because if the comments from the community are true, the moon’s haunted.
