Sasol awards five bursaries to students who attended the 17th annual Learners Focus Week

Earlier this year Sasol announced that it had opened applications to its corporate bursary programme, for Grade 12 students who wished to study at any public university or university of technology towards a B Eng or BSc Eng in various engineering fields.

On the 1st to 5th July, Sasol held the 17th annual Learners Focus Week at the University of Pretoria, where it gave out five bursaries to five deserving students who had attended the week.

The event was hosted by the Department of Mineral Resources and Energy, and the week focused on giving career guidance to learners studying mathematics and science at high school level and encouraging them to pursue Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) related careers at Universities.

“Sasol Energy is closely aligned with the goals of Learners focus Week, we aim to promote career development in the energy sector for learners at high school level, said vice-president of strategy and regulation at Sasol Energy,” Gosiame Khoele.

Sasol adds that the bursaries awarded are for university studies in the fields of engineering (Electrical, Mechanical and Civil) and includes, 100 percent prescribed university fees, registration fees, and exams fees.

Also included in the bursary is; student accommodation at university residence, a contribution for three meals per day as determined by the university, an amount towards books and pocket-money.

“The learners who attended the week-long programme were informed of the process involved in applying for Sasol bursaries, in addition each learner approximately 300 received Sasol beanies, scarves, gloves and jackets,” added Khoele.

Sasol further said that a number of learners have been selected from the Northern Cape, Eastern Cape, KwaZulu-Natal, Western Cape and Gauteng.

The Learners Focus Week is rotated to a different venue and province each year.
