Samsung may be tackling issues such as faulty foldable phones and slipping quarterly earnings, but the South Korean brand still has quite a bit of cache, especially so on the African continent.

This according to the 7th annual Brand Africa 100 list, which has named it the top brand in Africa. More specifically the survey ranks Samsung first as the most admired tech brand in Africa, and third as most admired overall brand on the continent.

“It’s always an honour to be recognised by the people we design our products for. This research validates our ongoing focus on creating products that empower Africans to do more. Samsung’s continued growth in Africa is fuelled by our commitment to be a part of the continent’s growth and prosperity,” says Dudu Mokholo, chief marketing officer at Samsung Central Africa about the announcement.

Interestingly the brand did not rank inside the top three locally when it comes to admiration, but did manage the feat in other countries, taking top spot in Nigeria, Ghana, Senegal, Cameroon, the Democratic Republic of Congo and Morocco, as well as number three in Kenya.

With growing pressure from brands like Huawei in South Africa, it should be interesting to see if Samsung can retain its top spot in next year’s survey, along with being ranked number one locally. Regardless though, the team at Samsung remain highly optimistic over the outlook for coming years.
