How software asset management could save your business money

Cloud applications are becoming a fixture in many workspaces but several businesses are still making use of on-premise software licensing because those licenses are still valid.

While this sounds pretty normal and not at all out of the ordinary it could help a business financially if it were to opt for cloud-based software.

Many software vendors allow customers to convert existing on-premise software license for use in the cloud according to software asset management (SAM) manager at First Technology National, Matthew Poulter.

“Microsoft, for example, has introduced a cost benefit through licensing concessions, that could help organisations save a significant sum on their cloud migration. They are offering a discount for utilising existing licenses in Azure Stack, driving down monthly costs by utilizing licenses you have already invested in. This concession eases some of the pressure, especially around cost, and helps businesses on their journey toward migrating workloads into the cloud,” explains Poulter.

But saving money on software is just the start of it.

For one, security is better owing to the fact that folks which offer cloud-as-a-service often invest more than your company could into security.

Cloud applications also give your business a degree of agility and flexibility that on-premise software licenses don’t.

Beyond these reasons however, cloud applications can also offer features on-premise software can’t.

For instance, analytics can give you a better overview of your business processes. Some solutions and platforms have even started implementing next generation tools such as artificial intelligence, robotic process automation and more.

The benefits of moving to the cloud are ample but that can present something of a deterrent owing to the sheer amount of solutions available.

For this reason it’s important to work with software asset management experts. In addition to this we’d advise looking at experts who are platform agnostic and want to help your business with solutions rather than push a particular product on you.
