New MediaTek Helio G90 processors are designed with gaming in mind

MediaTek has a new family of processors that it has officially unveiled – the Helio G90 series. This latest offering from the silicon makers is designed specifically for the demands of mobile gaming, with MediaTek adding that it has processor-intensive titles in mind.

To that end the new Helio G90 series is made up of the G90 and G90T. Both chipsets make use of an octa-core architecture with it split between a Cortex-A76 CPU which is tasked with handling intensive requirements and a Cortex-A55 unit for more run of the mill processes.

This is paired with a Mali-G76 GPU to take care of the graphics and up to 10GB of LPDDR4x memory, depending on what the manufacturer that makes use of it can muster.

The special portion of the new Helio G90 series is not the hardware though, but rather the HyperEngine that MediaTek has created to work alongside the processors. This HyperEngine is specifically designed to tackle lag, and according to the silicon maker cut down on it significantly.

As such it can make use of LTE to fill in any gaps that WiFi connections may be suffering from, as well as maintaining two WiFi connections on separate frequency bands.

The HyperEngine also address touch lag via a rapid response engine while gaming, and can call upon more processing resources for when a title or some sort of visual content features HDR10 functionality.

Separately on the photography front there is also support for up to a 64MP single lens, along with multi-lens support, although MediaTek does not list the total amount of megapixels for that kind of setup.

Also unclear is when MediaTek plans to ship the new G90 series in devices, with the firm likely waiting to pick up any of the slack for manufacturers unable to opt for Qualcomm’s processors.
