Samsung introduces new Galaxy Tab S6 as its answer to the iPad Pro

When it comes to new devices from Samsung most people are awaiting the official unveiling of the Galaxy Note 10 next week. That has not stopped the South Korean manufacturer from debuting another premium device in the form of the new Galaxy Tab S6.

Samsung is billing this latest offering as an iPad Pro competitor for Android users, with it touting several improvements over the Galaxy Tab S4.

To that end it features a lot of the multitasking and productivity benefits that Apple has been evangelising with its iPad Pro series, most of which is empowered by the S Pen that comes with the Tab S6. The stylus can clipped to an optional keypad case cover for the Tab S6, which again is standard fare for the productivity tablet crowd.

What will likely be of more importance are the specifications, with Samsung opting for a 10.5″ AMOLED display up front that has a 2560×1600 resolution. This is fairly similar to what the previous generation of Tab S had, but now Samsung has reduced the size of the bezels.

Internally we find a 7nm octa-core processor, although the firm has not noted which company produced the silicon. This is paired with either 6GB RAM or 8GB RAM model options, with 128GB and 256GB onboard storage respectively. The battery on offer is a 7 040mAh unit, with the S Pen also housing its own 0.35mAh battery, but Samsung makes no mention of battery life on the former or indeed any kind of quick or wireless charging functionality.

If you want to take pictures with your tablet, which is something we’re personally less than keen on, the Galaxy Tab S6 comes with an 8MP camera up front and combination 13MP and 5MP shooters on the rear.

As for price and availability, local details are in short supply at the moment, with confirmation likely coming at next week’s Note 10 launch. Those living Stateside however, can buy the 128GB Tab S6 from 6th September for a recommended price tag of $649 (~R9 356).
