Unisa extends registration date once again to 16th August

Earlier today we reported that the University of South Africa (Unisa) had extended the registration date for semester two of 2019, now it has been extended once again in what feels like an endless cycle of the institution failing to honour its word.

The original closing date was 8th August, which was extended to 10th August and now this date has been changed once again to 16th August.

This was announced on the official Unisa site which had the nerve to claim that “99% of May/June 2019 exam results” had been released.

As a quick reminder these exam results, written months ago at this point, were delayed because of a campus closure and an important staff member falling ill.

On top of extending the last day for registration, the university has also given a blanket extension for the submission of assignments. At Unisa most modules will only grant exam admission to students who submit their first assignment before it is due.

With the registration being stretched so far into the new semester, some students are finding that they will miss the first assignment due date before even being admitted.

“The deadline for second semester registrations has been extended to 16 August 2019,” the announcement reads, “Students who register late and whose assignment due dates have passed are encouraged to submit them as soon as possible, but not later that 6 September 2019.”

The cherry on top of all of this is the final part of the announcement: “The Management of the University has also agreed that all students who qualify for supplementary examinations during the October/November 2019 session, will not be required to pay for these examinations.”

As always the University recommends registering, when their site is not downed, and paying the minimum required amount as soon as possible. We recommend physically going to a Unisa campus to sort out your registration as we’ve experienced many problems with the online system in the past few days as the results are finally released.
