Twitch takes over Ninja’s page to advertise other channels

Last week arguably the post recognisable person in streaming – Tyler “Ninja” Blevins – announced he was leaving Twitch and moving to Microsoft’s Mixer platform instead.

Much has been written and said about what this means for the landscape of streaming, the future of both platforms, Blevins’ popularity and so on, but what we’re talking about today is much simpler: what is happening to www.twitch.tv/ninja?

The old home of the streamer has seemingly been reclaimed by Twitch. Visiting it now yields the message “The Ninja you’re looking for is in another castle. Check out these popular live channels.”

The message is pasted next to Blevins’ avatar.

Scrolling down the page and the default list of channels is, of course, popular Fortnite channels.

This, however, is just the main page of Blevins’ old haunt. If you go to the other tabs on the page such as clips and videos content from him is still there, for now. We have to wonder if that content will stay there indefinitely.

Those videos are almost certainly generating money for the platform, so it would be an unwise move to remove them. With the front page of the channel now being a poster board for the rest of the site, it seems that Twitch is being rather shrewd with this prime piece of internet real estate.
