Destiny 2’s Cross Save feature goes live next week

Destiny 2 is getting a lot more accessible next week when Bungie rolls out the long-awaited Cross Save feature.

Cross Save, not to be confused with Cross Play, will allow players to pick one account to be accessible from any platform. That means that if you play Destiny 2 on PlayStation 4, once Cross Save is enabled you’ll be able to play the game on PC with the same account.

“Cross Save will enable you to link accounts you use to play games on separate platforms and then designate one of them as your Active Account. From that point forward, the Guardians on that account will the characters you use to play on all linked platforms. We built the feature envisioning this as a decision you will make once,” Bungie explained.

Most things will go with you including weapons, armour, Triumphs and those Seals you’ve grinded your heart out for.

Cross Save goes live on 21st August which is a long way ahead of the, now delayed, Shadowkeep release. We suspect this is being done so that any bugs discovered during the process can be ironed out before 1st October.

There are some limitations to Cross Save however. For one, you can only access content you have paid for on a specific platform. So for example, if you don’t own Forsaken on PlayStation 4 you’ll need to purchase it for the console in order to play it.

That makes a degree of sense though it does sting to know that you’ll have to buy the game again. That having been said, once Destiny New Light launches on 1st October (a free to play version of Destiny 2) that problem shouldn’t be too much of an issue.

You also won’t be able to spend Silver on PC or console if you’ve switched from PC or console so best spend that before you get comfortable on your new platform.

The day before Cross Save goes live PC players will be able to start the process of linking their accounts in preparation for the move to Steam.

Details about Cross Save can be found here and more information about the move to Steam can be found here.
