Crab Fight finally allows you to play as an armed shellfish

If you’ve been feeling that playable shellfish are extremely underrepresented in the videogames space, Crab Fight is here to fix that.

Fight Club jokes aside, Crab Fight sees you taking control of a crustacean armed to the teeth (do crabs have teeth?) with all manner of weaponry. We’re pretty sure there’s some non-licenced versions of Mjolnir and a lightsaber in there.

While this game had an initial announcement and trailer some time ago, this new trailer comes with an early access release of the game which you can buy right now.

This isn’t Steam Early Access, however, as the game is being sold on itcho.io and a similar Japanese site we’re not familiar with. It costs $14.80 on itch.io and ¥1 480 depending on which site you buy it.

There you will find this amazing description of what’s on offer: “These crabs were granted ultimate strength and intelligence from the generous gods. Using their newfound strength and wit, they armed themselves with human weapons of the finest calibur, and took control of the lands. Immortal beings of unrelenting horror, they cannot be killed with swords or even guns.”

It goes on to explain what you may have seen in the trailer: the real way to win in Crab Fight is to flip your opponents onto their backs for a three count.

This early build of the game apparently features 19 types of crabs and 41 weapons. In the trailer we definitely saw a lobster, which isn’t a crab, so we take it there’s 19 different characters here.

The required specs are also provided here, with some kind of controller strongly recommended together with a Nvidia GTX 650 and 8GB of RAM. No CPU is listed but we assume this isn’t the most demanding of titles.

If you decide to pick this title up and want to provide feedback, the devs also have a Discord server for the game. An email address is also provided on those store pages.

If you’re reading all of this and something seems a bit off, it may be because you’re thinking of another crab game. Yes, really. Crab Champions is another game based on crustaceans armed with weapons, but it has the pedigree of being made by Noisestorm, the guy who created the famous Crab Rave song.

Speaking of memes: the header image at the top of this story isn’t from either game, but is instead from this famous video:
