YouTuber Stevie T set to play triangle (and bass) for Dragonforce

To paraphrase Shia LeBeouf somewhat – don’t let your memes be dreams.

We say this because the subject of today’s story did exactly that and has landed himself in a rather enviable situation.

That person is one Steve Terreberry better known as Stevie T on YouTube. The content creator makes music, specifically metal, but also has a number of videos calling out folks for faking guitar playing.

A few months ago lead guitarist of power metal band Dragonforce, Herman Li, responded to a question about whether he would let Terreberry join Dragonforce. The guitarist responded by saying he’d happily let the YouTuber take on the role of triangle player.

In response Terreberry created the video below featuring himself superimposed atop a Dragonforce interview and performance, complete with a showcase of his triangle skills.

Fast forward to this week and Dragonforce has announced that Terreberry will be performing triangle and bass for the band following the departure of Frédéric Leclercq. Terreberry will only be touring with the band for the US leg of its upcoming tour.

“I was deeply moved when I saw Stevie T’s technical precision and finesse on the triangle and immediately invited him to join the tour. This is a once in a lifetime opportunity to see the greatest triangle player ever to grace this earth,” Li said in a statement. We’re sure he’s joking but we can’t be certain.

This is not the first time a YouTuber has played with a large metal band. Jared Dines has played with Trivium multiple times and Luke Holland started life out covering popular songs on drums before graduating to full time drummer for The Word Alive.

We’re bringing these folks up because there are a number of musicians on YouTube have found success on the platform (not the Paul brothers) and its a great place to make a name for yourself. Hell, Terreberry has amassed 1.3 million subscribers and now has the opportunity of a lifetime.

Maybe I should pick up my old bass again.
