Pokémon to print the highest HP TCG card yet at 330

While we focus on the Pokémon videogames more here, we have to talk about some news which just came out about its trading card game.

This weekend is the Pokémon World Championships in Washington DC for both the TCG and the videogames, and the event usually comes with a slew of announcements for upcoming products.

On the TCG side of things there’s been something of a bombshell dropped in the short 72 second trailer that was just released. Teased right at the end, we will eventually see a Pokémon card with 330HP.

If you only played the base set back in the day that number may seem ridiculous with the card everyone remembers – Charizard – having just 120HP. As you may extrapolate, however, there has been powercreep over the decades.

This mystery 330HP card will dethrone the current champion in Magikarp & Wailord-GX, which has a whopping 300HP. That card is what’s referred to as a Tag Team GX, which gives up three prize cards when it is knocked out, compared to the one prize of regular Pokémon, and the two prizes of the more powerful GX and EX Pokémon cards.

Speaking of GX and EX cards, it looks like they will be replaced by new ones simple called “V”, which seems to be the focus of this trailer with it being in the thumbnail and new V cards being partly revealed throughout.

The 330HP card also seems to be one of these V Pokémon with the symbol for it in the top left corner. Our guess right now is that this new card will be a Gigantamax Pokémon, which would account for its huge HP, and physical size compared to the Pikachi and Zekrom in the foreground (those two have their own Tag Team GX card).

Two new Tag Teams were also revealed in this trailer. While two Pokémon are the standard for Tag Teams, we have seen three before with the legendary birds crammed into one card. The two new cards are Arceus & Dialga & Palkia-GX, as well as Togepi & Cleffa & Igglybuff-GX. The only real prerequisite for Pokémon to share a Tag Team card is for all of them to share a type.

Finally, the two legendaries for the new games – Zacian and Zamazenta –  will be getting their own V cards.

If you don’t at all care about the card game, a new trailer has also just been released for the new games, but it’s rather tame in comparison. The only new reveals in it are for some abilities and items.
