HP debuts OMEN Command Center hub & X 27 monitor at Gamescom 2019

With Gamescom 2019 well underway this week, it’s been newly announced titles which have grabbed many of the headlines. That said hardware manufacturers are also aiming to showcase their latest wares in Cologne, Germany, which brings us to OMEN by HP.

The firm’s gaming-focused brand had a number of newly minted devices on show, with the main offerings being on the accessories/peripherals side of things. Of the many announcements made, two in particular have caught our eye – the OMEN Command Center and OMEN X 27 monitor.

Starting off with the Command Center, which is a gaming hub piece of software that will be available to purchase via the Windows Store for anyone with a Windows 10 supporting device. Naturally HP is aiming for it to be used in conjunction with gaming-specific hardware, and the features that this hub touts lends itself to that.

To that end players will be able to create several curated profiles for example, with settings for game setups and accessories tailored between each one. As such you can have different profiles designed for specific titles.

Added to this is the ability to manage game libraries from one central location, although it remains to be seen what kind of support will be offered here depending on the platform you favour.

Lastly worth mentioning for OMEN Command Center is AI-supported coaching for specific titles. This is designed to help players with insights and tips on how to improve the way they play, with League of Legends the first game added to this feature, and HP noting that more will follow.

Shifting to hardware is the OMEN X 27 monitor, which is expected to land in the EMEA (Europe, Middle East and Africa) region in October for R15 999 (RRP).

This monitor is a 27″ display that sports a QuadHD (2560×1440) resolution and DCI P3 90 percent colour gamut. Added to this is an impressive 240Hz refresh rate which should pique the interest of FPS players, along with 1 millisecond response time and comes with AMD Radeon FreeSync 2 HDR certification.

As expected it will support Command Center, with HP adding that the ultra-thin bezel design of the monitor making it easy to pair three X 27 displays together for a more impressive setup, if a little costly.

With nine new pieces of hardware on show from HP, both for the OMEN and Pavilion range, there should be an influx of offerings from October onwards.

One of those peripherals is the Mindframe Prime Headset viewable below. It is coming in two colour options and is anticipated for local availability later this month or in coming weeks. In terms of recommended pricing it will cost roughly R3 499.

For that price you’re getting built-in 7.1 surround sound for vastly improved audio quality, explains HP. It also comes with environmental noise cancelling (ENC), as well as integration with the Audio Lab section within Command Center.
