Blasphemous demo to be released if enough people wishlist the game

Blasphemous is a game that has been doing the rounds for some time now thanks to its striking art style, unique quasi-religious theme and what looks to be solid 2D hack-n-slash combat.

Thankfully, with some effort from the community, we may soon be able to confirm that last part for ourselves. The game’s developer The Game Kitchen (who is known for The Last Door games before this) has announced that a limited time demo will be made available should the game reach 50 000 more Steam wishlists.

We’re not too keen on developers and publishers holding content “hostage” like this, but we understand the hustle and an uptick in wishlist additions will probably push the game up Steam’s various lists and get the title in front of more eyes.

The problem is that most people who have been following the game have likely added it to their wishlists as soon as the Steam page became available, so they’re probably banking on those existing fans nagging their friends to do the same.

We’re also unsure why this seems to be locked down to Steam at the moment despite the fact that the game is also coming to console at the same time. We can only assume that Steam offers better tracking of wishlist additions when compared to the other stpres, or PC is simply the lead platform here.

Hopefully, if the extra 50 000 additions are reached and a demo is released, it will be made available on console too.

Regardless, Blasphemous is scheduled for release on Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, Steam and Xbox One on 10th September 2019.
