Spotify Premium now free for the first three months to new users

August is shaping up as a busy month for Spotify, with the streaming service having launched its Podcasts service and extended functionality on its Family Plan. Now Spotify Premium is receiving a change that newcomers will be interested in, with it now available for free trial for 3 months instead of one.

The platform confirmed the news in a press release sent to us, explaining that there are a few terms and conditions that come with the additional two month extension. Mainly that it only applies to users who have never trialled Spotify Premium for free before.

That said, if you really wanted to, you could create another profile and sign up for Spotify Premium and have ad-free access with as many skips as you want for three months, but you didn’t hear that from us.

Thereafter you’ll be looking at R59.99 per month for the service.

“Music and podcasts play an important role in people’s lives so we wanted to give users the first 3 months for free to fully enjoy everything that Spotify Premium has to offer. We know it takes time to fully experience all of the features available with Premium, so we’re giving people the time that they need to fall in love with Premium’s seamless listening experience and on-demand access to more than 50 million tracks, billions of playlists and 450,000 podcast titles for free,” notes Spotify chief premium business officer, Alex Norström.

It’s likely the addition of podcasts which has inspired this latest offer, especially as Spotify has outlined its intention to become the go-to destination for podcast listeners and creators in future.

The new three months free offer for Spotify Premium kicks off today, and should be available globally by the time you read this.

Having used both the Free and Premium versions of Spotify, we can attest to the latter being a superior choice, not just for ad-free listening, bit more importantly not being limited by skips.
