Truecaller passes 1 million paying subscribers & adds new features to Premium

If you are not a fan of telemarketers, you more than likely have Truecaller installed on your smartphone. The popular caller ID app has also passed a significant milestone recently, having garnered over one million paying subscribers globally.

A large chuck of its business is local too, with Truecaller highlighting that more than 20 percent of its user base is in Africa, and it currently has 1.7 million daily active users in South Africa.

“We are happy to see this growth, and it makes us proud that users value the benefits of our Premium features. We are also excited to announce these new upgrades that will help us add even more value to our growing Premium users and help them make their communication more safe and efficient,” explains Truecaller founder and CEO, Alan Mamedi.

As the founder notes, to mark the occasion Truecaller Premium is adding a few new features to enhance its spam blocking capabilities.

Some of the notable new features on Premium include an ads-free experience, notifications when someone views your profile, call recording (not on Android 9.0 or higher), and a branded caller ID.

Truecaller also has a tier above Premium called Gold, with it too receiving some exclusive features such as auto-updating the top spammers list, auto block of top spammers in your region, and blocking numbers that are not in your contact list.

Should you be interested in Truecaller’s spam blocking services via Premium, it will cost a monthly subscription of R19.99, with the first three months offered at an 80 percent discount at the time of writing for new subscribers.
