The Surge is discounted and free to play right now

If you’ve never been one for Souls-like games or were never sold on The Surge from 2017, you have the chance to try it out for free if you act fast.

From right now until tomorrow, 28th August, the game is free to download and play on Steam.

Depending on the speed of your internet connection, your tolerance for these kinds of games and your willingness to use guides, that may be enough time to finish the game if you’re willing to stay put for a full day.

When we reviewed the base game at launch it took us an even 24 hours to work our way through, so you can technically do it too if you’re dedicated to getting the most out of a free offer.

If you just want to use this as intended – as a demo to see if you like the title – you can then buy the game at a discount as it’s 75% off.

Its Wild West expansion The Good, the Bad, and the Augmented is 33% off, as is the A Walk in the Park DLC.

Thankfully these offers don’t seem to be limited to Steam and PC. Looking at the game on the Microsoft Store for Xbox One and there is a free trial option available which we don’t recall ever being there before. Buying the full game, however, doesn’t seem to be discounted with the full price of $39.99 on display.

Those on PlayStation 4 don’t get any kind of demo or free play, but the game is discounted down to $12.49.

With The Surge 2 recently going gold and a 24th September release date, we’ll likely see much more of the franchise in the coming month.
