Supergiant’s roguelike Hades arrives on Steam in December

The developers behind modern classics like Bastion and Transistor have been working on the early access roguelike Hades for some time now, and it will be on Steam before the end of the year.

You may have seen people playing the game already, or indeed done so yourself, as the title is only available on Epic Store until December when the exclusivity deal ends.

Hades now has a Steam page and its arrival has been marked with a short post from Greg Kasavin, a writer and designer at Supergiant Games.

“We think Hades combines many of the best aspects of our previous games, and we really hope you enjoy it once you get a chance to play — whether in Steam Early Access starting December 10 this year, or after v1.0 sometime in the second half of 2020,” Kasavin writes.

When Hades becomes available on Steam it will still be in early access, so don’t think that picking it up on a different platform means that you’ll be getting the release version.

On the Epic Store the developers have been doing a sterling job providing constant updates to the game, something you can see in the Noclip documentary on the game when it initially launched. The last big update happened just two weeks ago and you can see the huge list of changes and additions that are made when it happens.

If you’re someone who already avoids early access games the Epic Store exclusivity probably meant very little to you as you’re likely still waiting for the second half of 2020, but at least there’s a Steam page to wishlist and follow now.

We fall into this camp but we also love roguelikes, and Hades seems to offer up some interesting takes on the genre with its Greek mythos setting, isometric perspective and mix of melee and ranged combat.

As 2019 marches on it will be interesting to see what the Steam community makes of Hades, and if it is any more discerning than that of those on the Epic Game Store. Regardless, we hope everyone playing the early builds of this game can provide feedback to developers to make the best possible final release.
