Doccies, DC and series coming to Showmax this September

Spring Day has come and gone which must mean our sinuses are acting up it’s Spring.

Despite the warmer weather in Johannesburg over the last week the Winter chills are still around and giving us an excuse to remain in-doors binge watching series and movies.

To aid us in that regard Showmax has outlined what is coming to its platform this month.

There are two rather high profile documentaries headed to Showmax this month. The first one is Surviving R Kelly which tells the harrowing tale of the singer’s sexual, physical and emotional abuse allegations from the mouths of the victims.

Building off of that is Aaliyah: The Princess of R&B which follows the story of the late artist who was killed in a plan crash shortly after becoming a global sensation. Both of these doccies release on 2nd September.

Moving on to series, there are a number of first headed to Showmax this month.

Season five of Bosch debuts on Showmax on 2nd September. Following the events of Season 4, Bosch is now faced with a case from the past and new case involving opioids.

On the same day Julia Louis-Dreyfus returns for season seven of VEEP.

Then on 9th September, a new series begins releasing weekly on Showmax. The Rook is billed as a supernatural spy thriller in which a woman wakes up in London surrounded by dead bodies and no recollection of what happened. As it turns out, she has supernatural powers as well.

For the movie fans there are a number of high profile titles hitting Showmax this month.

Golden Globe nominee, Crazy Rich Asians arrives on 9th September. If romance isn’t your style then perhaps a few superhero movies will tempt your tastebuds.

Wonder Woman arrives on 19th September and then to round off your DC experience Justice League arrives on the same day. While neither film was critically acclaimed, they are quite fun to watch, especially if you’re still mourning the end of the current MCU.

Remember that Showmax costs R99 per month but you can score a seven-day trial if you’ve never signed up for the service.
