Truecaller passes 500 million downloads with 150 million daily active users

Truecaller achieved a fairly significant milestone recently, with the popular call screening application surpassing the 500 million downloads mark, as well as having 150 million daily active users.

The company confirmed the news in a blog, adding that it had only just passed the 100 million daily active user count in 2018. It’s shaping up to be a good year for the firm, having also surpassed 1 million paid subscribers a couple of weeks ago.

“This is a significant achievement for Truecaller, which is emerging as a one-stop communication platform with a wide array of services like Instant Messaging, VoIP, and Payments. The 150 million DAU’s achievement makes Truecaller the most used communication app in India after apps like WhatsApp and Facebook Messenger,” the company noted in a press release.

“The key factors that have led to this rapid growth are Truecaller’s many communication features like their smart dialer, VoIP capability, Instant Messaging, and their spam-free SMS inbox,” it adds.

Accompanying the  milestone are a pair of announcements, with Truecaller adding two new features to the mix in coming weeks. To that end the application will be getting a Call Alerts and Full-Screen Caller ID functionality.

Both features are fairly self-explanatory, with Call Alerts informing users of who’s calling them before the phone rings, and Full-Screen Caller ID adding more information about the person calling, such as their location and email address, should that information be stored on one’s device.

Truecaller is talking up the functionality of Caller ID in particular, which it says far more detailed than what any of the standard dial interfaces that many smartphones use, as well as competitor screening applications.

“There simply is no comparison when you look at standard dialers from phone makers. More and more people are finding it challenging to separate work and personal life, especially when they use their phones for both,” the firm adds.

“This gives businesses a better opportunity to take control of their business profile, and in turn users will get more information on who’s trying to get in touch with them,” it concludes.
