LG adding Nvidia G-Sync support to its new 2019 OLED TVs

If you enjoy playing PC games on a TV instead of a monitor, LG has made an addition to its new OLED TVs that may just pique your interest. The South Korean electronics manufacturer confirmed that it will be adding Nvidia G-Sync support for its new 2019 OLED TVs.

More specifically the variable refresh rate system will feature on its 65E9, 55E9, 77C9, 65C9 and 55C9 models of OLED TVs.

This feature is not native, however, it’s important to note, with LG explaining that if a user connects a notebook or PC sporting an Nvidia ray tracing (RTX) GPU, refresh rates of up to 120Hz should be on offer.

“We are excited to bring G-SYNC Compatible support to LG’s 2019 OLED TVs and HDMI Variable Refresh Rate support to our GeForce RTX 20-Series GPUs,” says Matt Wuebbling, head of GeForce marketing at NVIDIA.

“Gamers will be blown away by the responsiveness and the lifelike visuals on these TVs when playing the latest PC games featuring real-time ray-tracing powered by GeForce,” he adds.

The feature has been available in some form to Xbox One X console players using newer LG OLED TV models thanks to variable refresh rate support over HDMI 2.1, but now PC players have an option too, should they have the correct GPU on their device.

Other enhancements offered by this recently announced feature include an input lag of only 6ms while displaying 1440p content at 120Hz, along with it increasing to the 13ms range for 4K content at 60Hz, the manufacturer confirms.

Should you have bought one of the aforementioned 2019 TV models, along with having a device with an Nvidia RTX GPU, LG says the new G-Sync feature will port to select markets in coming weeks via a firmware update.

At the time of writing, there has been no word from LG South Africa on whether the update is expected locally in coming weeks too.
