Trump moves to ban non-tobacco flavoured vapes

Users of ecigarettes or vapes that prefer flavours other than the smokiness of tobacco are about to have their smoking alternative plucked away from them.

This is because of a meeting held by US President Donald Trump in which he pushed to remove and ban all non-tobacco flavoured vapes and ecigarettes from the market.

The move appears shocking but in truth the Federal Drug Administration has been looking into the matter for some time now.

The Verge reports that officials announced 450 people are suffering from deadly lung illnesses which are said to be linked to vaping.

The argument appears to be that the non-tobacco flavours popular among vapers are alluring to children and teenagers.

Back in September 2018 the Centre for Disease Control found that of a group of 20 000 teens, 5 200 had tried vaping.

“We can’t allow people to get sick and we can’t have our youth be so affected,” said Trump during a press briefing.

“That’s how the first lady got involved, she’s got a son, together, that is a beautiful young man and she feels very strongly about it. She’s seen it, been reading it, we’ve both been reading it but people are dying with vaping. So we’re looking at it very closely,” the president added.

Putting aside Trump’s roundabout way of saying his wife is concerned about their son, this matter appears to have garnered the attention of Trump and his administration.

The announcement was met with fury online as folks compared the matter to gun control. Others claimed that vaping related deaths, of which there have been six in the US, were brought about by illegal cartridges.

We should point out that its only non-tobacco flavoured vapes that might be banned in the US and folks would still be able to vape, just not with the bombastic flavours they’ve grown to love.

That having been said, the way things stand we wouldn’t be surprised if vaping in general is banned in the US in the next few months.
