The HP Spectre x360 – Where style and performance meet

When it comes to the local consumer notebook space many, if not all, are designed with a specific purpose in mind.

These unitaskers, as they are often called, are good at handling the specific purpose they are designed too – whether that be great battery life, a brilliant display or being able to transform into different form factors.

What if you want a notebook that can do all of the above though?

Here the options are slim, with the notable exception being the Spectre x360 range from HP.

Hey good looking

The firm’s Spectre lineup has been around for some time now, and its latest x360 offerings are made with creatives in particular in mind, as well as those users who want a perfect mix of style, performance, battery life and the ability to morph.

With both 13.3″ and 15.6″ models in the 2019 HP Spectre x360 lineup, let’s explore what the manufacturer has added to the mix in these variants to make them stand out form the rest of the consumer-focused notebooks out there.

Firstly design, which is of course what draws many consumers in when looking at the Spectre x360. Here a beautiful all-aluminium chassis is present, with angular edges to add a bit of character. The edges are also mirrored by the buttons on the outside of the notebook, as well as the speaker vents sitting above the keyboard.

The Spectre x360 comes in two stylish colour options too – Dark Ash Silver and Poseidon Blue.

To match the eye-catching design comes an ultrathin creation which measures 14.55mm and 19.3mm on the 13.3″ and 15.6″ models respectively. Added to this is a lightweight construction which tips the scales at only 1.32kg on the smaller 13.3″ variant and 2.17kg on the larger 15.6″ flavour.

Let’s not forget the screen being able to rotate vertically to be used in a tablet mode, along with a display or tent option which makes the most of the crisp screen quality to deliver presentations or simply enjoy videos or movies.

For a consumer who wants a notebook that is both premium and highly portable, the Spectre x360 ticks those boxes with some aplomb.

Doing it all, and doing it well

The Spectre x360 range is not all sizzle and no steak either, with HP opting for a number of highly-specced components to power this lineup.

Speaking of power, one of the key elements that this range offers is superb battery life. To that end the 13.3″ model can deliver up to 22.5 hours of battery life while working and an equally impressive 21.5 hours of Full HD video playback. The larger 15.6″ iteration has a slightly lower battery life at up to 17.5 hours of work and 15.25 hours of Full HD video playback, but this is still a far margin more than other similarly specced notebooks on the market.

As such the latest Spectre x360 range is well poised to help you work from nine to five, and then some.

On the processor side of things the lineup of notebooks is not found wanting either, with 8th Gen Intel Core i7 chipsets available, as well as up to 2TB of NVMe SSD storage depending on the model of device you opt for. To help keep things ticking over at a rapid rate, a choice of 8GB or 16GB RAM if on offer too.

Away from prying eyes

Given that users will be powering up their Spectre x360 notebooks while on-the-go, security becomes an increasing concern. Here HP has you covered, with a number of security-focused features integrated into the range.

There’s a physical webcam kill switch for example, which allows users to quickly power off their webcam and make in inaccessible to those trying to get in.

Added to this is a fingerprint sensor to offer another level of biometric security, along with a privacy screen that can be activated by pressing your F1 button to ensure any prying eyes don’t catch a glimpse of sensitive information.

With the HP Spectre x360 more than just a well designed and slim notebook, it will stand you in good stead thanks to its powerful specifications and all-day battery life.
