iOS 13 adds Siri support in beta for Spotify

iOS 13 has been making its way to iPhone users over the past few days, and the latest version of Apple’s mobile operating system sports more than just a dark mode. This as iOS 13 is testing out Siri support on Spotify, showing that there is relatively no bad blood bad between the two following the App Store dispute.

Spotify confirmed to The Verge over the weekend that the feature is currently in beta for select users, and more specifically can be accessed once iPhone owners download the iOS 13.1 update, which adds the functionality.

“At Spotify, we routinely conduct a number of tests in an effort to improve our user experience. Some of those tests end up paving the path for our broader user experience and others serve only as an important learning. We aren’t going to comment on specific tests at this time,” said an unnamed Spotify spokesperson to The Verge.

While the statement does not go into details, the publication has noted what it has been able to do with Siri on Spotify to date. To that end users can request songs, playlists and albums via the digital assistant, with it working via Apple Airpods too, although not on the Apple Watch, the site says.

Interestingly podcasts cannot be requested with the aid of Siri, which is a tad odd considering the push for the medium that the streaming platform has been making of late. This will likely change when Apple decides to roll out the Siri support for Spotify in full.

When that happens though is unclear, with neither party commenting on an official release date. While we wait for a precise date, we hope that other digital assistant makers and smart earphone manufacturers add a similar integration for their solutions.

Until then we’ll have to continue doing things on Spotify with our thumbs and fingers.
