It may be less than a year since Rockstar Games impressed us with the brilliant Red Dead Redemption 2, but hopes of getting stuck into the title once again via some new DLC have been dealt a blow.

The developer’s focus is 100 percent on Red Dead Online right now, which is the game’s multiplayer platform that has been growing in popularity of late. This was confirmed via an interview given by Rockstar’s lead online production associate Katie Pica to VG24/7.

In it Pica explains that she has worked to place as many of the single player elements that fans loved about RDR2 into the multiplayer version of the title.

“We’re 100% focused on online right now, because like I said, there’s just so much to do, and we’re just hoping to bring everything that a player can love about single-player into the online world, and fleshed out,” she says.

As Engadget points out, this isn’t exactly a strange strategy for the developer, especially as GTA 5 did not receive any notable form of DLC once it made its official debut, whereas GTA Online has received several improvements and batches on content since launch.

Still the chance to return to the world of RDR2 and the superb narrative and storytelling in it, would have been nice thanks to the addition of some DLC.

On that note though, online producer Tarek Hamad says many of the narrative elements of RDR2 have been integrated into Red Dead Online.

“The team’s ambitions for Red Dead Redemption 2 were sky high in every way, and when we are building worlds of that scale, the single-player experience almost always leads the way,” he says.

“Our ambitions for our online games are just as high, and with Red Dead Online we are continuing to build and expand to match the world we created for Red Dead Redemption 2’s story, not just with the roles but other activities, new random events, characters to meet, new ways to engage with the world and further inhabit your character, as well as trying to improve the overall experience.,” concludes Hamad.

As such it looks like we’re going to have to venture back into Red Dead Online in order to get our frontier fix.
