So, where is the Samsung Galaxy Fold?

Back in February Samsung announced a revolutionary new smartphone in the Galaxy Fold.

Following a series of delays, the device entered the market in South Korea last month. Jealous as we were, we waited patiently as we’d previously heard from Samsung Mobile South Africa’s chief executive officer, Sung Yoon, that the Fold would launch locally in September.

As Billie Joe Armstrong can attest to, September has come and gone and there is no Samsung Galaxy Fold in our review queue and no news about its local release.

We contacted Samsung’s local office to find out what was happening and received the following statement.

“Samsung Galaxy Fold launched internationally in September and will be available in South Africa soon. Samsung South Africa is well aware of the excitement surrounding the imminent release of the Galaxy Fold. We are currently preparing for its much anticipated release and will share this date very shortly.”

So basically, we have no idea when the Samsung Galaxy Fold will be released but we do know it is coming here.

As you may recall the Samsung Galaxy Fold’s release was delayed owing to the handset breaking in the hands of reviewers. Despite these breakages being caused by user error, Samsung went back to the drawing board and revamped the Fold to make it a bit hardier in the hands of the public.

For now South Africans will have to wait a bit longer to get to experience Samsung’s folding smartphone.
