SAP lists four ways to get involved with Africa Code Week this month

October is an important month for SAP, with the firm leading its Africa Code Week (ACW) initiative.

Now in its fifth year, the coding-focused initiative has expanded to include the entire month, and while SAP has its own plans in place in order to teach more children how to code, it has also listed a few ways on how others can get involved.

Four to be more precise, with the company stressing the importance of coding, especially as 80 percent of jobs in the future will be STEM-related. This means a fundamental understanding of coding will prove imperative for the next generation of workers entering the employment field.

This year SAP has enlisted more than 130 partners and 120 ambassadors from 37 countries to combine their efforts during Africa Code Week, which aims to introduce an additional 1.5 million youth to basic coding skills throughout October.

As for the four ways to get involved with Africa Code Week, SAP has outlined the following:

Attend a live workshop

Taking place at schools, universities, science community centres during the month of October, ACW’s free coding workshops address specific age groups regardless of learner levels.

Free online courses

If you are between 12 and 16 years old and would like to learn computer programming, openSAP is a handy resource. This free online course will teach you how to create your own animations and games using the well-known Scratch interface. The openSAP platform also offers this free course for teachers eager to learn the skills they need to teach coding to students.

Host a coding workshop

There is an option available if you’re keen to support the planning and execution of workshops in your own community. You can visit the ACW website to download the partner guide including a checklist of what you’ll need to host a coding workshop at your school or in your community.

Become a coding instructor

Those wanting to become a coding instructor visit the ACW website to see where Train-the-Trainer workshops are taking place in their country.
