Fujifilm’s Instax Mini Link is a portable printer for smartphones

Fujifilm has found a lot of success locally with its range of Instax-branded instant cameras, and now the Japanese company has revealed a new piece of hardware for those who want nostalgic looking prints – but not the camera necessarily – in the form of the Instax Mini Link.

This new offering is a designated portable printer, akin to the HP Sprocket, and specifically created to work with your smartphone. Fujifilm has integrated a similar function in many of its Instax cameras, with the most notable being the LiPlay, and now the Mini Link offers that without the need for an actual camera.

The device is compact and lightweight at 200 grams and fits in the palm of your hand, with the printing functionality facilitated via the Mini Link app and connecting to your smartphone via Bluetooth.

Fujifilm also notes that it boasts a few different modes to add elements to your prints like frames, as well as a party and collage printing function. On the more technical side, the company explains that the Instax Mini Link can transfer a print in 12 seconds, and can print up to 100 images per full charge.

While smartphone printing is the aim here, Fujifilm says the Mini Link can also receive data from its X series and GFX cameras, which means even more detailed pictures can get the nostalgic instant print treatment.

Revealed globally a few days ago, Fujifilm South Africa says the Instant Mini Link will be landing locally, but availability and recommended retail price is still in the offing. We’re expecting it to arrive before the festive season, but will wait for confirmation.
