HP’s new Elite Dragonfly notebook lands locally in November and costs R35k

In September HP revealed a handful of devices aimed at the premium business consumer. The flagship among these was the Elite Dragonfly notebook, which the company has christened the world’s lightest compact business convertible.

At the time there was no local availability and pricing information, but that changed last night as HP held an event to reveal the new notebook to the South African public.

As for the important details, HP has said the Elite Dragonfly is expected in the EMEA region in November, which South Africa falls into, but did not offer up a precise date we will be able to see these devices in store.

We do, however, know how much the new lightweight convertible business notebook will cost, with the company listing its recommended pricing to start from R34 999. As such the Elite Dragonfly is designed with the premium user in mind who isn’t afraid to pay MacBook Pro money for a Windows device.

So what does R35k buy you?

Well Let’s start with the design, which is all-aluminium and tips the scale at 997g. This is quite impressive for a 13.3″, with HP also boasting about its 86 percent screen to body ratio, as well as its ability to shift from notebook to tablet modes.

Another aspect that HP is touting for this device is battery life, with the standard model delivering up to 16 hours of battery life. There is also a four-cell battery version which pushes that to 24.5 hours, but it does mean that weight also increases. In the greater scheme of things, it’s a small price to pay given the actual full-day battery life that HP says it can muster.

Other notable elements include an 8th Gen Intel Core vPro processor, WiFi 6 connectivity, generation three of HP Sure View for security and HP Privacy Camera.

With all of the above, the Elite Dragonfly should appeal to business consumers who are constantly travelling, along with being able to manage the big price tag.
