The Energy 100 is Energizer’s new feature phone for R799

In recent months we’ve another rugged phone maker enter the country with Energizer. To date much of the focus has been on smartphones, but now the company’s feature phone has entered the South African market.

That device is the Energy 100, and it will cost you R799 depending on which retailer you opt for. More on the retail options shortly, but first let’s look at what this feature phone is packing.

It’s got a 2.4″ TFT screen up front, with a ruggerised body that is IP54-rated for dust resistance, shock and splash-proofness. This means it is not an out-and-out waterproof, but can handle a few drops of water here and there.

On the connectivity side of things the 2G bandwidth is supported, along with GPRS, Bluetooth 2.1 and dual SIM (mini SIM) functionality. Mediatek is taking care of the processor and the operating system, with a MT6261D chipset found for the former.

Added to this is the feature phone standard 4MB RAM and 4MB onboard storage, but a microSD slot is good for an extra 8GB. There’s also a VGA camera taking care of shooting on the rear.

The big selling point of the Energy 100, apart from its rugged design though is the battery. Here at 1 500mAh unit is present, which far more than normal feature phones. The result is up to 11 hours of talk time and 200 hours of standby time.

If you’re keen on picking up the Energy 100, Takealot is selling it for R699 and Cellucity for R799 at the time of writing.
