Typhoon Hagibis prompts FIA to reschedule qualifying at F1 Japanese Grand Prix

This weekend the F1 Japanese Grand Prix is scheduled to take place at Suzuka Circuit but the festivities are being cut short.

All activities scheduled to take place at Suzuka Circuit on Saturday have been cancelled due to Typhoon Hagibis.

“As a result of the predicted impact of Typhoon Hagibis on the 2019 FIA Formula 1 Japanese Grand Prix, Mobilityland and the Japanese Automobile Federation (JAF) have decided to cancel all activities scheduled to take place on Saturday, 12th October. The FIA and Formula 1 support this decision in the interests of safety for the spectators, competitors, and everyone at the Suzuka Circuit,” the FIA said in a statement this morning.

As a result the track will be closed to the public and media.

Strangely enough, however, the F1 race and several other racing events will still take place on Sunday, 13th October.

For the F1 fans there will still be a qualifying session on Sunday morning as will the Porsche Carrera Cup Japan.

The race is still scheduled to happen at 07:10 CAT on Sunday.

The Rugby World Cup 2019 currently on the go in Japan has also been forced to reschedule matches on Saturday owing to the predicted impact of the typhoon.

Wet conditions at Suzuka are no joke. The track is incredibly fast especially entering the first corner and the iconic 130R. Back in 2014 Marussia driver Jules Bianchi lost his life after he spun off at Dunlop Corner in wet conditions created by Typhoon Phanfone.
