For the Samsung Galaxy S10 series, the South Korean firm ditched the fingerprint scanning pad for one that sits beneath the display which uses ultrasonic technology.

Ahead of its official launch we noted that the solution was hit or miss but it has improved with software but now there is a rather worrying problem that allows anybody to unlock your smartphone.

So what is the issue?

As reported by Ars Technica, anybody with a clear silicon phone cover can unlock your smartphone by placing it on the display and then scanning their digit.

Samsung has taken note of the flaw and has said that they are going to be distributing a software patch to address the flaw. There is no word on when that patch will be distributed.

As an owner of a Samsung Galaxy S10+ this news is deeply troubling. As we mentioned previously we had trouble with the finger print scanner in our early days of use.

It’s also not the first time the S10’s scanner has been spoofed. Shortly after release a 3D printed fingerprint was used to unlock the handset.

For all Samsung’s talk of the fingerprint scanner in the S10 being incredibly secure it appears as if it still has work to do in that department.
