Fujifilm debuts X-Pro3 digital mirrorless camera with insane low light autofocus

Fujifilm has a new flagship model for its X series of digital mirrorless cameras, as the Japanese manufacturer recently unveiled the X-Pro3. This latest offering is expected to land in selected regions in late-November, with Fujifilm adding that it features a number of firsts for the company.

Starting with design the X-Pro3 features a lightweight titanium body, with the camera maker also serving up two new colours from its usual mix, as DR Black and DR Silver are available along with the traditional Black body.

The DR refers to Duratec, which is a special coating given to the cameras in order to better protect them against scratches and knocks. It also helps distinguish the X-Pro3 lineup from the other X series mirrorless cameras that Fujifilm has in its stable.

Now for the important stuff, what’s inside. Here the Fujifilm X-Pro3 sports a 26.1 megapixel X-Trans4 sensor, which is paired with a quad-core X-Processor 4 imaging engine, placing this latest model in line with some of the company’s more recent offerings in the specs department.

Some elements to differentiate the X-Pro3 include an improved algorithm to deliver an -6EV level of autofocus, making it capable of accurate phase detection in near darkness the company says. Added to this low light performance is an ISO range of 160-12 800 or 80-51 200 in expanded mode.

There are also a couple extra tricks thrown in by Fujifilm, including the ability to capture multiple shots while in HDR mode and sync them on-camera in order to get the best looking image, which is something we routinely see on premium smartphones.

There’s also a range of different filters to employ while shooting, including Velvia, Eterna, Monochrome, Classic Neg. and Monochromatic Colour. As for video you can muster up to DCI 4K at 30fps or 1080p at 120fps.

On the back end a 3.5″ display is found, with it only being able to flip downwards 180 degrees, which means if you had plans to use the X-Pro3 as a vlogging camera, it may be best to look elsewhere.

As for local pricing and availability, the Fujifilm X-Pro3 is also expected to land in SA in late November, but we have not seen it listed for pre-order on any sites at the time of writing. In terms of cost, the body will carry a recommended price tag of R24 000.
