Axon launches tap and go SIM registration in Ivory Coast

Registering a SIM card is a massive pain point for South Africans which is likely why local firm Axon Wireless has launched a tap and go registration system.

The solution has been launched in Ivory Coast where mobile users are able to load their ID on their smartphones which in makes registering a SIM easier.

“After using South Africa as a proving ground, we took our SIM sign-up system and made it better in Ivory Coast. Now, we’re hoping South Africans will also soon have access to ‘tap and go’ SIM card registration to help ease the complexities involved in becoming a mobile customer,” says chief executive officer of Axon Wireless, Justin Lipshitz.

Axon Wireless provides agents which register SIMs with software that can be loaded onto a mobile phone. This software allows for the registration of the SIM without the need for additional hardware.

As the solution is software, Axon is able to update it should laws regarding SIM registration in a country change.

All told, Ivory Coast citizens can now register a SIM card in as little as 45 seconds.

“Mobile’s all about convenience and we’re extending that efficiency to the customer sign-up process. The system has been exceptionally well-received by mobile users who have historically felt inconvenienced by onerous SIM registration requirements,” Lipshitz added.

Axon Wireless is reportedly looking at launching the solution in South Africa but there is no expected timeline for that launch.
