MTN Business App of the Year Awards 2019 – All of the winners

The annual MTN Business App of the Year Awards took place last night awarding top honours to local developers doing outstanding work.

The award ceremony was held in Johannesburg and the best apps in education, agriculture and more were honoured during the event.

“We at MTN Business were very impressed to see the calibre of entries in this year’s competition. It’s truly rewarding to see how this premier app development platform continues to grow from strength to strength,” chief enterprise officer at MTN Business, Wanda Matandela, said in a statement.

The overall winner of the awards for 2019 was Naked Insurance.

The firm uses artificial intelligence and chat-bots to give customers insurance cover in minutes. More than that, Naked Insurance gives customers full control over their motor vehicle insurance, even giving them the option to pause certain aspects of the insurance when it isn’t needed.

The winners from each category follow on below.

Best Enterprise Solution Award: Digger – Digger uses big data to connect the right people to the right job. The app intelligently screens and matches candidates for each position.

IDEMIA Most Innovative Solution Award: SI Realities – This app uses augmented reality to teach science to those who don’t have access to a science lab. SI Realities allows users to perform experiments in a virtual lab.

Sentech Best Health Solution Award: Vula Mobile – Vula Mobile is a free app that connects healthcare workers in rural or under-served areas with medical specialists in major urban areas.

Pioneer Best Agricultural Solution Award: Hydra Farm – This app allows farmers to track manage and monitor various aspects of their operation. Hydra Farm allows for tracking of livestock, water use, equipment issues and much more.

Fundi Best Educational Solution Award: Matric Live – Matric Live is built by a student for Matric students. The app is loaded with educational and study information for 16 subjects.

Coca-Cola Best South African Solution Award: Franc – Franc provides stokvels with a high-performing, low-cost investments and the flexibility to withdraw money at any moment. Users are also able to invest in two proven money market and exchange traded funds using Franc.

MiBlackBox Best Consumer Solution Award: LocTransi – LocTransi allows parents and guardians to monitor their child’s transport in real time. Parents receive SMS alerts when issues pop up and drivers are able to alert parents in the event of an emergency.

Best Financial Solution Award: Naked Insurance

LaunchLab Best Incubated Solution Award: LocTransi

PlayStation Best Gaming Solution Award: LootDefence – A tapper style game that sees players fending off goblins, pirates and other creatures. The game is available globally.

ITWeb Best Breakthrough Developer Award: MoWash – The “Uber” of car washes, MoWash brings the car wash to customers. The service not only has MoWashers was your car but they inspect for problems such as flat tyres, oil leaks and the like. MoWash can even remind you when it’s time to renew your license disc.
