SABC to provide monthly feedback on its turnaround strategy

Earlier this month the Department of Communications announced it would grant the SABC a R3.2 billion bail-out.

That bail-out came with preconditions and one of those is implementing a turnaround strategy.

On that deputy minister of communications, Pinky Kekana, has announced that the SABC will be submitting monthly updates to government as to the progress on that strategy.

The announcement was made during Kekana’s appearance at the National Assembly on Wednesday, according to a report from SA News.

“SABC executives will provide the departmental task team with monthly progress reports, with effect from November 2019 on the implementation of the turnaround strategy,” Kekana said.

“In this process, the SABC will also be required to report on the progress made in addressing the concerns of government with regards to three outstanding pre-conditions that must fully be complied with by March 2020,” the deputy minister added.

On that note the SABC has reportedly demonstrated its commitment to enhance its supply chain management processes to government.

While that is all well and good, the SABC is also going to have to prove to the public that it can be turned around.

Between rampant mismanagement at a senior level and plans to increase TV license fees by five percent, the SABC has to prove to the public it can turn the ship around and it can be trusted.
