Apple TV+ is available in South Africa right now for R84.99

The streaming wars in South Africa have yet another combatant entering the ring today – Apple TV+.

The service is launching with a seven day free trial and a subscription will cost R84.99 per month.

Despite the service being available locally, visiting the Apple website will present you with a “Coming Soon” notice. However if you head to this link you will be able to sign up for the trial and begin your subscription.

Speaking of which, the subscription fee does come in well below Netflix’s R99 per month fee (Showmax’s fee is also R99 per month) but you’re getting a lot less content.

As of release we count nine titles available for streaming on Apple TV+ right now including The Morning Show and See which stars Jason Momoa.

Of course Apple will inevitably add content to the service, but on release day, things are very empty.

What’s more is that you’re not going to be binge watching the aforementioned series all at once with new episodes being released every week.

While it may be empty right now, Apple has a number of high profile names making content for the streaming service including Oprah Winfrey. The Cupertino giant has also reportedly spent $60 million on talent for a Christmas movie starring Will Ferrell and Ryan Reynolds.

Whether Apple TV+ will become a contender in the streaming space remains to be seen but unless you’re dying to see The Morning Show or any of the other shows we’ve listed below, maybe give the free trial a go but hold off on a subscription for now.

Apple TV+ South Africa:

  • The Morning Show
  • See
  • Dickinson
  • For All Mankind
  • The Elephant Queen
  • Helpsters
  • Ghostwriter
  • Snoopy in Space
  • Hala
  • Servant (releases 28th November)
  • Truth Be Told (releases 6th December)
