The 1989 Burton Batmobile leaked as massive LEGO set

The Tim Burton version of the Batmobile is arguably the most iconic incarnation of Batman’s ride and you will be able to build a decent sized replica of it from LEGO, if some “leaks” are to be believed.

We put leaks in inverted commas there because there was no shady activity or questionable methods to finding out about the new product, as it was simply found on shelves in the Billund Airport where pictures were snapped of it and shared online.

The 1989 Batmobile (LEGO code 76139) was displayed as costing €279.58 or 1999 Danish krone. For those of us outside of Europe Brickset estimates this to be £229.99 or $259.99, basing that on sets of a similar size.

If your currency isn’t listed it’s usually a good idea to take the UK price, convert it into your local currency, and then add a bit extra on top of that. Yeah, it’s going to be a pricey get regardless of where you are.

In terms of size it’s rumoured to have 3 306 pieces, though this is unconfirmed at this time. The back of the box also features height and length measurements for the completed build, but these early images are just too small to make out the numbers.

Aside from the Batmobile itself there are three minifigures in the box: Michael Keaton’s Batman, Jack Nicholson’s Joker and Kim Basinger’s Vicki Vale. The three of them come with their own little stand and a plaque is included with some details about the Batmobile, as is standard for LEGO’s Ultimate Collectors Series range of products.

As this has hit store shelves early it must mean that the announcement for it, whenever that may be, will happen soon with official availability following shortly after, if not immediately.

It’s a bit strange that this set would come out now, however, as the 30th anniversary of the movie was back in June. We have to assume that LEGO, DC and everyone else involved wants to get some of those lucrative Holiday sales.

If the prices listed above are too high, a smaller version of this set is actually coming out. Unfortunately the smaller one is a limited edition with details around it being vary scarce at the moment. When, where and how much this version will cost is a mystery right now.

Finally it’s worth mentioning one last set: in 76119: Batmobile: Pursuit of The Joker. This is an original design from LEGO with no ties to the 1989 film, but it is clearly inspired by it,a s well as The Animated Series. This set is on sale right now and won’t bankrupt you.
