Farming Simulator riffs on Pokémon with “Gotta Farm ’em All” trailer

Farming Simulator 20 is heading to the Nintendo Switch next month and, to mark the occasion, they’ve released a trailed entitled “Gotta Farm ’em All”, a clear riff on the Pokémon tagline “Gotta Catch ‘Em All”.

While this would usually be some tongue in cheek marketing as the game is now sharing the Nintendo platform, it feels a bit like hopping on the bandwagon at Pokémon’s expense.

If you’ve not been keeping up with the 15th November release of Pokémon Sword and Shield, general resentment towards the titles has been steadily growing over the past few months.

Many factors have contributed towards this swell of bad will towards the generally beloved franchise, but the main factor is a an overall lack of innovation on the part of developer Game Freak. With the franchise being more than two decades old now, longtime fans are finding the new games increasingly familiar and bereft of changes to the formula.

The vocal point of these frustrations has been the fact that not all Pokémon will be obtainable in the new games, which defeats that whole “Gotta Catch ‘Em All” shtick. On top of this countless other controversies and outrages have accompanied Sword and Shield, but we won’t get into that internet quagmire right now.

For Farming Simulator it’s a clever bit of marketing, especially because these annual franchise titles have also been ridiculed for a similar lack of innovation with each subsequent entry.

Regardless, Farming Simulator 20 launches on the Nintendo Switch come 3rd December. The Gotta Farm ’em All trailer, which is completely tame without context, is embedded below.

Oh, and all mentions of trailers and wagons in this story don’t relate to the farming implements.
