Nedbank streamlines mobile application with introduction of Money App Lite

Nedbank has announced the release of a streamlined version of its mobile banking application called Money App Lite. The new offering is designed with customers who are more data savvy in mind, and in particular have devices which may not have the necessary storage to run the regular Money App.

The cost of data is key component to this new offering from Nedbank, with the financial institution pointing to a 2019 Affordability Report (PDF) the average cost for 1GB of data is 7.12 percent of an average monthly salary.

With this in mind, Nedbank says the Money App Lite is, “Less data intensive as it is smaller to download, and it doesn’t need to be updated as often,” as well as, “A smaller installation meaning it uses less space on mobile devices,” according to a press release sent to Hypertext.

Additionally, the app can also be downloaded directly from the Nedbank website by clients who do not have access to the Google Play Store, but no mention if a similar feature is available to iOS device users.

“At Nedbank, we are committed to ensuring that our clients are integral to our digital journey and that has led us to consistently deliver market leading client-empowering digital offerings, of which Money App Lite is the latest example,” explains Stelios Vakis, digital executive for Nedbank Retail and Business Banking.

“For us, digital is more than an operational enabler or a transactional channel. It’s the foundation of our bank and how we are deliver exceptional, efficient and value-adding experiences in response to the evolving needs and behaviours of our clients,” he concludes.

With any kind of savings on data welcome by local consumers, this new app from Nedbank should be a preferred download option.
