Obscure piece of Destiny 2 lore sends community on a wild goose chase

Truth to Power is a lore book in Destiny 2 that requires warning before it is read.

The reason for that is Truth to Power cannot be trusted when it comes to Destiny’s lore. This is because this specific book contains a number of claims that cannot be backed up.

There is a claim that the person is Eris but this is later refuted. There is a claim that there was a Golden Age AI known as Medusa, something that is never mentioned anywhere else in the Destiny lore.

There’s also the matter of the lore keepers in the Destiny community believing that Truth to Power was written by Quria. For those who aren’t aware, Quria is the Vex Mind which was Taken by Savathûn which means Quria is bent to her will. As such Quria (and by extension Savathûn) is responsible for the curse that grips the Dreaming City, forcing it to relive the same three week cycle forever.

With that in mind it’s worth taking Truth to Power with a truckload of salt.

But the Destiny community did not do that and instead took one entry as a clue.

In the card act|choose|react, players can complete a choose-your-own-adventure style game to find the following snippet.

“You bring Medusa before Rahool. ‘Ah,’ he sniffs, ‘another battle trophy? Pre-Collapse, post-Foreboding, a covert intelligence designed to watch over a high-risk colony mission. Allow me to decrypt her for you.’ He issues you several tokens, a rare-quality fusion rifle, a shader, and a letter. The letter reads ‘Achieve Light Level 999 and defeat Dûl Incaru in a one-person fireteam to unlock the true ending of the Dreaming City.'”

With the release of Destiny 2: Shadowkeep, players are able to hit that fabled 999 “Light Level” with help from the Seasonal Artifact.

Combined with the lore entry above, many in the Destiny community believed that hitting 999 Power and then soloing the Shattered Throne would:

  • End the curse on the Dreaming City
  • Unlock the 15th Wish in the Last Wish raid which has been teased since last year

And two players managed to reach that point early this morning.

The first of the two players is known as Bagel and from what we saw, this was his first time in the Shattered Throne. The entire run was gripping to watch but you can watch the end where Dûl Incaru is defeated below. Bagel was helped by streamer Gladd and other members of Redeem as well as the other person close to 999 Zupah.

So, nothing happens.

There is no end to the curse and there is no 15th Wish that has been revealed as a result. All the man got was some cat treats and some Reverie Dawn gear.

That means this is over right? The search for the 15th Wish will be abandoned?

Not exactly.

The website Braytech.org has reportedly revealed that there is indeed a 15th Wish that can be made in the Last Wish raid. Where previously there were only 14 wishes to be made in order to earn a Triumph, a Redditor spotted the 15th Wish Triumph yesterday.

Of course the defeat of Dûl Incaru could mean nothing but given that Bungie has a habit of hiding things in its games (Whisper of the Worm anybody?) we’re inclined to think that this isn’t the last we’ve heard of Quria, Dûl Incaru and the Dreaming City.
