It is nearing that time of the year again when everyone starts to roll out their Top 5, Top 10 or Best Of lists for 2019. Apple is no different, having done so for apps and games in particular in recent years, but for 2019 it appears as if the firm is switching up its usual format.
This as a number of invites have been sent out to media (our’s probably got last in the mail) for an event happening on 2nd December. “Join us for an Apple special event honoring our favorite apps and games of 2019,” reads the invite sent to CNBC.
Wired’s Lance Ulanoff also shared what the invite looked like on Twitter.

While nothing about the previous format was wrong, which usually involved Apple sharing a press release of the best performing apps and games on its platforms, the new approach may have something to do with the fact that Apple has introduced some new offerings on the gaming and media fronts this year.
To that end both Apple Arcade and Apple TV+ have in launched in recent weeks, bringing with it a number of exclusive titles and offerings, so the company may be wanting a larger stage with which to highlight some of its content.
As for who the big winners will be in the Best Of event, remains to be seen, but we would not be surprised to see a few Apple exclusives taking home prizes.
With Apple also aiming to create a stronger developer and creator community for its digital platforms, making a bigger deal about the content and tools they create never hurts either.
The Best Of event is happening at 23:00 SA time on the 2nd, but no live stream notice has popped up on the firm’s website yet.
