Mercedes slaps $68k starting price on its all-electric EQC SUV Stateside

It’s turning out to be a good week for all-electric SUVs, with Ford debuting a new model of Mustang and Audi introducing its latest e-tron. Now Mercedes-Benz has revealed more information about its own EV which debuted earlier in the year – the EQC SUV.

The news is not that the SUV is landing in the United States next year, but rather the starting asking price, which is $67 900.

That specific price is for the EQC 400, which is the entry-level model, and as TechCrunch notes, it is less than some of the other all-electric SUVs currently on the market such as the Jaguar I-Pace and Tesla Model X.

As with many of the EVs that German carmakers have revealed of late, there is no mention of whether Mercedes-Benz plans to bring this specific lineup to South Africa. Given that the company plans to invest a massive $12 billion towards the development of more EVs, the wait hopefully won’t be that long before we get an EQC model in SA.

While we await news on the local availability front, the EQC SUV features a dual-electric motor, like many of the EV SUVs these days. The Mercedes version cranks out 299kW of power and 760Nm of torque to yield an impressive 0 to 60mph (96km/h) time of 4.8 seconds.

In terms of driving range the entry-level EQC SUV is around 321 kilometres, and has an extremely handy quick charging function to reach 80 percent capacity in 40 minutes.
