Samsung to donate bursaries worth R14 million in 2020

Samsung South Africa has announced that it will be doubling its bursary investment in 2020 following a R7 million investment this year.

The announcement was made at the Samsung Empowering Tomorrow event held in Johannesburg this week.

Students at the University of Pretoria, North-West University, University of Johannesburg and the Gauteng City Region Academy will benefit from the bursaries which now total R14 million.

Specifically, Samsung awards the bursaries to students in the business, marketing and IT fields.

“We are continuously working to build on and expand the programs we offer to young people across South Africa. Samsung is committed to improving the use of IT technology in education, providing access to smarter learning environments to support students’ creativity and to reduce the digital divide. We strive to reduce local education gaps and turn potential into power,” said director of Samsung South Africa’s Business Innovation Group and Corporate Affairs, Hlubi Shivanda.

Samsung South Africa also announced that the best performing students at the aforementioned universities would have the opportunity to work at Samsung as part of its leadership programme.

This investment forms part of Samsung’s global mission aimed at helping people discover and develop their innate potential, the firm said.

“Samsung will continue to pursue opportunities that give the youth of South Africa hope for the future with viable careers, allowing them to support themselves and make a positive impact on their families, their communities and where people are meaningfully engaged in the economy,” the firm concluded.
