Sir Jony Ive no longer a part of Apple

Like many across the tech world, we were surprised when Apple confirmed that Sir Jony Ive would be leaving the Cupertino-based company.

With the only exception of Steve Jobs and Steve Wozniak, Ive has been one of the most influential individuals at the firm, especially given his work on the design side of things and having a hand in some iconic products.

His departure from Apple is now official, with several tech sites noting that Ive is no longer listed on the company’s leadership page. His position also doesn’t appear to have a replacement, which is interesting in itself.

Following the announcement that he would be leaving Apple, there were reports swirling around the industry that Jony Ive and CEO Tim Cook didn’t see eye to eye, and the latter did not care about design. Cook slammed those reports as absurd, with Apple adding that culture is more important than personnel.

How the firm will cope without Ive remains to be seen, but we for one will definitely miss his soothing voice narrating Apple’s product design videos.

As for what’s next for Jony Ive, his next project involves starting his own design house called LoveForm, which curiously will add Apple as one of its first clients. As such Ive could still have a heavy influence on Apple’s product design, but more interesting is what other companies he chooses to work with moving forward.

Either way, it is indeed the end of an era at the firm.
